For a large processing plant operating in a challenging environment, efficient management of emergency situations such as fires, explosions, and gas leaks is essential. Especially when it operates in an isolated location, like Smart CAD’s customer, a state-owned oil and gas plant that employs over 1000 personnel including 50 firefighters and a paramedic team.

Facing the challenge

To ensure a swift response to these high-stakes scenarios, the plant sought a solution to reduce response time and mitigate impacts of potential threats that could lead to:

  • Injuries,
  • property damage,
  • financial loss,
  • environmental damage.

To address these needs, the company chose to deploy the Smart CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch) system by GINA.

Strategic implementation

The Smart CAD has significantly transformed emergency response operations by deploying incident management software solutions for 3 dispatchers, equipping 10 vehicles with tablet apps, and providing all emergency personnel with mobile apps.

This approach facilitates communication between dispatchers and field units, allowing for real-time multimedia sharing and quick status updates in one system. A robust logging feature with precise date and time stamps aids in documenting incidents for insurance claims.

The system also maps out key Points of Interest, including assembly points, water supplies, and hazardous areas. The apps provide access to various documents about hazardous materials, procedures, vehicle plans and other critical information.

An automatic SOS, triggered through radio buttons, sensors, apps, Man-Down feature and EPS, ensures prompt alerts during emergencies, complete with precise location information, aiding in swift and accurate response.

Key benefits delivered by the Smart CAD solution:

  • Quick unit dispatch
  • Precise location
  • Incident log
  • Automatic alerts
  • POI’s and documents

Impactful results

The implementation of Smart CAD has significantly transformed the facility’s incident response capabilities. Streamlined dispatching, modernized workflows, and providing all personnel with easily accessible information for decision-making have had the following impacts:

Improved reaction times – Smart CAD’s automated alerts and configurability enable dispatch and response teams to react within 20 seconds, significantly faster than the previous response time of several minutes. This enhancement helps to protect lives and prevent further damage.

Enhanced coordination – The ability to provide precise incident and location details has facilitated better coordination among response teams, and also coordination between national emergency services and internal teams.
