Safeguarding a community of over 1 million people, the fire and rescue service has addressed fundamental emergency management challenges and enhanced response efficiency with Smart CAD.

Fire and rescue services in sprawling African regions face diverse challenges such as fires, technical rescues, car crashes, searches for missing persons, and more. To handle these properly, fast response times, effective coordination, and information sharing are essential.

Facing the Challenge

The fire and rescue service operating with 3 dispatch centres recognized the need for a unified emergency management system, as the absence thereof limits their operational efficiency.

The absence of a comprehensive system was furthermore compounded by the lack of critical communication infrastructure. The region’s poor connectivity and the non-visibility of other emergency units in the system further aggravated the situation, hindering effective coordination and response.

Key challenges:

  • Absence of unified emergency management system
  • Poor connectivity in the region
  • Non-visibility of the other emergency/responding units
  • Inadequate funding

To address these issues, the organization decided to deploy Smart CAD by GINA.

Strategic implementation

GINA introduced a cost-effective, modular Smart CAD solution tailored to the fire station’s needs. This user-friendly case management system, designed for easy data input and straightforward operation, was installed in each of the three operational centers.

Tablets were distributed to every response vehicle, each equipped with a mobile application that enables dynamic talk groups through PTT (Push-To-Talk) functionality. This approach significantly expanded the covered area, improving communication without the need for traditional radios.

Key benefits delivered to the fire and rescue service by GINA’s Smart CAD include:

  • Quick unit dispatch
  • Precise location tracking
  • Common operational picture (COP)
  • Easy to use technology
  • Cost-effectiveness

Today, Smart CAD system facilitates case logging, dispatching of units, and provides essential features like location services and navigation, even in areas with poor connectivity.

Impactful results

Thanks to the system’s modular design and user-friendly interface, the Smart CAD deployment was straightforward. With minimal training required, emergency personnel quickly adapted to the new technology, allowing the system to deliver significant benefits almost immediately.

Enhanced response efficiency – The introduction of the applications has streamlined operations, enabling quicker dispatch.

Improved coordination – The dynamic talk group functionality has bridged the communication gap, allowing for better coordination even in the absence of conventional radio systems.

Increased situational awareness – Supervisors and managers now have real-time visibility into ongoing operations.
